Sarah Jakes Roberts, co-pastor of The Potter's House, has shared a frightening health update after sustaining a serious neck injury that nearly left her paralyzed.
The 36-year-old author and speaker revealed in a recent Instagram post that the incident occurred while she was playing on a trampoline with her daughter, Ella. According to Roberts, she landed directly on her neck and immediately heard “several pops,” signaling the severity of the accident.
“Last night was scary. I was almost paralyzed, but God didn’t see fit to let that be my story,” she wrote, sharing a photo from a hospital bed while wearing a neck brace.
Roberts explained that her daughter quickly alerted her father, who called emergency services. She was subsequently transported to two hospitals, where multiple scans revealed the extent of her injuries. Doctors diagnosed her with a fractured neck, herniated discs, and trauma affecting critical areas of her spine.
“Two hospitals, several scans, and hours later, we learned that I had fractured my neck, herniated discs, and endangered areas of my spine that could have left me paralyzed,” she said. “One disc up or one disc lower, and this would’ve been a different testimony.”
Medical professionals have advised her to wear a neck brace for four to six weeks to stabilize the injury and prevent further complications. Roberts noted that she will be prioritizing rest and recovery during this period.
“Rest and recovery will give my body a chance to heal. I’ll be laying low while I navigate this injury with wisdom,” she shared.
Despite the traumatic experience, Roberts expressed deep gratitude and faith, saying she is “soaking in the presence and kindness of God” while leaning on the support of family and friends.
Roberts, daughter of T. D. Jakes and leader of the Woman Evolve movement, was recently installed as co-senior pastor of The Potter's House alongside her husband, Touré Roberts. The leadership transition took place in July, following an announcement by Bishop Jakes earlier in the year encouraging the congregation to embrace the new pastoral leadership.
Founded in 1996, The Potter’s House has grown into one of the largest megachurches in the United States, with an estimated membership of about 30,000.
Beyond her ministry role, Roberts is a bestselling author known for her transparency about personal challenges, including her journey as a teen mother and her path to healing and restoration. In previous interviews, she has emphasized the importance of embracing one’s past as a tool for growth and transformation.
As she continues her recovery, supporters around the world have rallied in prayer and encouragement, celebrating what she describes as a testimony of divine protection and grace.
