Research Says Tight Parent- Daughter Bonds Delay Premarital Sex — So Here Are Ten (10) Ways to Connect || Read For Free

Did you know parents play a huge role in shaping sexual decisions for their children—particularly girls?

A new study shows tight parent-daughter relationships can keep adolescents from engaging in premarital sex. That’s why EEW Magazine is sharing with you 10 ways to connect to with your daughter.

New research from Dutch investigators who studied nearly 3,000 teenagers actually discovered adolescents who reported feeling close with a parent were unlikely to have had sex when surveyed again two years later.

If you want to help your children honor the biblical command to abstain from sex before marriage, strengthen your relationship with these helpful tips.

1. Pray. Philippians 4:6 (ESV) reads, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Ask the Lord to give you the wisdom needed to raise your daughter. His guidance will equip you to lead her down the right path.

2. Talk to her! Strike up conversations with your daughter; whether the topic is serious, silly, or casual. Communication is key to fostering any successful relationship.

3. Take the time to listen. Don’t make all your conversations one-sided; hear what your daughter has to say. Let her know that her words are valued and you’re not merely listening so you can cut in, and stomp all over her opinion with your own. You will be amazed by how much your kids really know when you listen.

4. Create an environment for honesty. Let your daughter know that the truth, be it good or bad, is always welcome. Make sure she knows that she can always open up to you and that her triumphs, and failures alike will be greeted by a response rooted in love.

5. Build trust. Let your daughter know that you trust her and that she can trust you. This is accomplished by making her aware that you don’t expect her to be perfect, but you trust that she will make the right decisions more often than not, based on the values you’ve instilled in her.

6. Don’t be too prideful to apologize. As a parent and a human being, it’s inevitable that you’re going to make mistakes. You may say the wrong thing or take the wrong approach, but repentance changes things. Yes, repentance; not just saying you’re sorry, but taking the necessary steps to avoid a similar blunder next time.

7. Be loving. Make sure your daughter feels genuinely loved! The fact that you are her mother doesn’t mean you are required to be as strict as a drill sergeant all the time. Tell her you love her and show her as well. Affection is an amazing way to form a tight bond.

8. Spend time with her. You may not always be able to set aside a whole day getting to know your daughter, but finding little minutes and precious hours where you can just talk will make a world of difference in her life. Also, if you get rid of distractions such as TV, you’ll be surprised by how much extra time you have on your hands!

9. Have fun! When you do have whole days to spare, plan girls’ days with your daughter—special time set aside just for you and her. You can go to the mall, or just stay home. And be goofy sometimes! Don’t be afraid to show your silly side. A laugh or two never hurt anyone.

10. Balance it all out. You may understand that you are not one of your daughter’s little friends, but that doesn’t mean you are required to be her enemy. Yes, at times you two will disagree and you’ll have to play the bad guy. But fun, smiles and games should hold an important place in your relationship. Just try and strike a balance!

If you apply these 10 tips organized by praisejamzblog, they will make a world of difference in your relationship with your daughter.
