NEWS: Lecrae Admits Sharing Molestation in 'Unashamed' Book Was Difficult

Lecrae's new book Unashamed lives up to its title, with the rapper recounting the addiction and molestation that he faced in his life.

While rehashing some of these memories and experiences were necessary for the 36-year-old rapper, he admits it was anything but easy emotionally. In an interview with XXL, Lecrae admitted that reliving the molestation that took place when he was a child was dificult.

"Yeah, one is just rehashing being molested as a kid, as a 6-year-old. Having the babysitter molest me," he responded when questioned about the difficult experiences he had to relive in his book. "Not so much for me to live back through but to have her stuff out there like that too. You know this is somebody that I still know 'til this day."

While Lecrae, who was born Lecrae Devaughn Moore, has not confronted his former abuser, he spoke about the impact the molestation had on his life.

"We haven't even had a convo about it but it's right here [points to head]. It's been affecting me my whole life, it's been impacting me," he said. "I haven't talked to her because she was such an intricate connection to our family and I think a lot of times, specifically Black communities, we bury stuff. So it's like your situation and your stories always seemed to be lesser or not a big deal. So for a long time I didn't think it was that big of a deal and it really wasn't until I got older did I realize the type of affect it had on me."

Still, the Christian entertainer insists he is in a good place despite the negative experience.

"It doesn't bother me now because I'm free. I feel like I'm past it," he said. "So it's like, what am I going to say to you. I don't really have anything to say except I forgive you."

The rapper's memoir will give people a glimpse into the life of Lecrae's tumultuous journey into his faith.

"Two-time Grammy winning rap artist, Lecrae, learned this lesson through more than his share of adversity —childhood abuse, drugs and alcoholism, a stint in rehab, an abortion, and an unsuccessful suicide attempt," a description of the book states. "The rap artist holds nothing back as he divulges the most sensitive details of his life, answers his critics, shares intimate handwritten journal entries, and powerfully models how to be Christian in a secular age."

Lecrae previously spoke about his inspiration for the book in a statement shared with The Christian Post last year.

"I am writing Unashamed for all those who don't know who they are, who feel confined by the labels given to them," said Lecrae. "As an artist my ambition is to make honest music, and I feel the same way about writing this book,"
